Qn1: Write a brief statement as to the purpose of the study
  • Null hypothesis: There is no relationship between the length of one's forearm and the length of one's foot.
  • Research hypothesis: There is a positive relationship between the length of one's forearm to the length of one's foot.

Qn2: Define the population.

  • 15 females and 15 males
  • Ages between 16 to 45 years old.

  • Participants are to be selected only from NYP, School Of Health Science.

  • Our participants can be of any race races.

  • Participants must not have any deformities of hands, legs or growth retardation.

Qn3: State how the samples were collected.

  1. 5 person in our group, each is assigned different roles. 1 photographer, 1 recorder, 3 measurers.

  2. We approach any students or teachers from SHS, between the age of 16 to 45 years of age, kindly asked them if they could spare us some of their time and explained to them what we needed them to do.
  3. We get them sitted comfortably.

  4. First we measured the length of their forearm. To ensure accuracy, we used a shoe box, ensured that the elbow touches the box and it is 90 degree. 3 measurers will then take turns to measure the length using the same measuring tape. 3 readings are recorded and the average is taken.

  5. Next, we measure the length of the person's foot using a shoe box. the heel of the feet must touch the back of the box and placed flat on the ground. Shoes must be taken off. To ensure accuracy, 3 measurers measured and took the average reading.

  6. We thank the person and ensured he/she that it would be keep annonymous. A sweet is given to each participants at the end of the session.

This steps are repeated 30 times in order to get our 30 readings.

Qn4: Show the raw data.

Qn5: Draw a scatter plot for the data values.

Qn6: Write a statement analysing the scatter plot.

There is a positive association between the length of one's arm to the length of one's foot with a R Sq value of 0.317.

Qn7: Compute the value of the correlation coefficient.

r= 0.563

n= 30

Qn8: Test the significance of r. (State the hypothesis, select alpha, find the critical values, make the decision, and analyse the results.)

Null hypothesis: There is no relationship between the length of one's forearm and the length of one's foot.
n=30
r= 0.563 (moderate relationship)
Alpha= 0.001 (p<0.05,>

Qn9: Find the equation of the regression line and draw it on the scatter plot.

m= 0.466
c=12.613
n=30

Ans: Forearm=0.466(Foot)+12.613

Qn10: Summarize the overall result.

Ans: p= 0.001 (p<0.05,>

Pearson's R= 0.563 ( 0.4-0.6=moderate relationship)
Therefore, we reject the null hypothesis. There is a positive, moderate relationship between the length of one's forearm and the length of one's foot.
