There is a positive , moderate and significant association between the length of one's forearm and the length of one's foot. (R=0.563, p= 0.001 (p<0.05), n ="30)
Qn1: Does a linear correlation exist between x and y?
Ans : The linear equation is
Forearm=0.466(Foot)+12.613
Hence, there is a linear correlation between x and y.
Qn2: If so, find the regression equation.
Ans: Forearm=0.466(Foot)+12.613
Qn 3: Explain how good a model the regression equation is by finding the coefficient of determination and coefficient of corelation and interpreting the strength of these values.
Ans: R sq linear=0.317
Pearson's R=0.563 (moderate correlation, -1.00<(r)<+1.00)
R Sq=0.317, which means that 31.7% of the total variation in the length of one's foot(y) can be explained by the linear relationship between the length of one's arm(x) and the length of one's foot(y). The other 68.3% of the total variation in y remains unexplained.
